The H9 does a portion of what those boxes do, and it does it well, but to be honest, I'm only bowled over by the reverbs and more esoteric soundscape-y stuff it does so far. As you know, I'm a huge Eventide fanatic and have plenty of experience with their big-boy processors. You know, I'm kinda on the fence about it after only a short day with it. Of course, being digital, there are days I want to do the reverse, but fact is, I have this thing on a whole lot of work. There are days I want to throw a bunch of stuff off the board and get a second one. I maxed mine, as things kept coming up and leading to more uses for it, so I finally said WTF and got a max package for the damn thing. I highly recommend the rotary, ducked delay, and black hole algorithms as well as a few others. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I'm sure, by how good it sounds.
Highly recommended even if you hate the idea of digital anything (like me)! Digital tones, and I have my issues with any digital gear, but this box does things nothing else can, and it's so useful that I use it in one way or another on most projects. No inscrutable menu diving - unless you want to (you don't have to use a phone, tablet or computer, you're welcome to torture your back!).

Algorithms are easily and deeply editable from the mobile device, or from a Bluetooth computer. I also use it with synth tracks, etc, because it does the things the old H3000 d/se did - the algorithms were ported over, and then they added new ones.Īlso.Bluetooth control from IPhone, iPad, etc., so no bending over to twiddle knobs. This is the only digital box on my pedalboard. I use mine so much, in lots of ways, that I got a second one for my son, who uses it in the studio on his recordings, and on tour with Partybaby. Last I saw, Pete Thorn and Tim Pierce are using these, as are many others. But with this, you can put your phone, tablet, or laptop in a convenient place, like on a table or stand, and use gestures to set the controls.

You'd need all three of the big Strymon boxes to do what this does, plus their distortion and other smaller boxes, and still wouldn't have everything and you'd be menu diving on a tiny screen, and needing a cable to talk to your computer. They have been coming out with new algorithms several times a year.Ĭomplex delays and reverbs, pitch, crystal effects, compression, EQs, every type of modulation, filters, wahs, rotary, pitch fuzzes, distortions, tuner, you name it. The algorithms for these that are available (all of the Core ones can even be upgraded to "max" to have everything plus new algorithms free) very inexpensively go well beyond any other device on the market, and even the meat and potatoes stuff is IMHO top of the heap.
